How does PageMaker 6.0 differ from PageMaker 5.0?

Adobe PageMaker 6.0 for Apple Macintosh and Microsoft Windows delivers more than 50 new features and enhancements emphasizing versatile color publishing, flexible page design, expert printing and prepress controls, extensibility via plug-ins, and enhanced compatibility and integration with other Adobe products as part of the Adobe publishing solution. In addition, PageMaker 6.0 features new technology for creating publications in Adobes Portable Document Format (PDF) and authoring Hypertext Markup Language documents (HTML) for electronic publishing on the World Wide Web. Top New Features include:

- Kodak Precision Color Management System ensures accurate and consistent color from scanning to proofing to final output .

- Multiple master pages increase productivity for creators of magazines, catalogs and other complex publications.

Question 2:
Since PageMaker 6.0 has been designed to run under Windows 95, how will it run under Windows 3.1?

Answer:
Adobe PageMaker 6.0 for Windows is a full 32-bit application designed for Windows 95. However, PageMaker 6.0 will also run under 16-bit Windows 3.1 using Windows 32s dynamic-link libraries (.DLLs). Please note these differences: - TIFF clipping paths may not appear on-screen nor print correctly to non-PostScript output devices. - A 16 bit Table Editor version 2.11 will be installed. - PageMaker will not import dBASE or other database files. - PageMaker 6.0 will not run from a Windows 3.1-based network server. - There are five Photoshop Effects filters from Adobe Photoshop LE usable in PageMaker 6.0.



Question 3:
I have PageMaker 4.0 files, will they convert to PageMaker 6.0?

Answer:
Yes, PageMaker 6.0 will be able to open and convert both PageMaker 4.x and 5.x publications, however, this is only if you are converting Windows to Windows or Mac to Mac. Files from previous versions on different platforms will not open. Cross platform files from the same version will open.



Question 4:
What is included in the 6.0.1 update/enhancement pack and why haven't I received it yet?

Answer:
PM 6.0 Enhancement Pack is the first in the Adobe series filter/driver packs for PageMaker 6.0. The name of Enhancement Pack will reflect the goals of the PageMaker team to increase Adobe's responsiveness to customers with Filters, Drivers, Converters, Plug-In's etc. Included in the Windows PageMaker 6.0 Enhancement Pack:

- three new plug-ins: Word Counter, Change Case, and Global Link Options.

- a new version of the HTML Author plug-in, which now lets you specify up to 100 hyperlinks in a single publication; select and launch a Web browser on your system to quickly view the HTML files you produce; and apply a graphic background to those files.

- a new version of the ODBC Sources plug-in, which supports importing Access, FoxPro, and Paradigm files into your PageMaker publications. - significantly improved Kodak precision transforms for color-managing and printing PANTONE Hexachrome high-fidelity color separations.

- new and updated PostScript printer description (PPD) files

- Adobe PostScript driver version 4.1, which can use font metrics information from the ATM.INI file to correctly manage font spacing, kerning, and other fine type adjustments.- QuarkXpress Converter, which can help you easily convert QuarkXpress for Windows documents to PageMaker for Windows publications. (The converter runs only under Windows 95 operating system)

- updated technical notes and tryout versions of recently released Adobe products.

Included in the Mac PageMaker 6.0 Enhancement Pack:

- built-in support for ColorSync 2.0, Apple Computers Color Management System extension to the System 7 operating environment.
